Assistance Programs

Local

Pine Island Disaster Recovery Center at Philips Park 5675 Sesame Dr, Bokeelia. Resources/Assistance from FEMA, DUA, SBA and health clinic. Get help applying for federal assistance, disaster loans, update applications and learn about other resources available. Call the fire department at (239) 283-0030 to ensure the hours are accurate. Hours: 8am to 7pm, Mon thru Sat.


Get a new valuation on your property for a lesser tax obligation. Go to LEEPA and click on the email reporting link, upload your photos and show the county the current condition of your property. You may get a break on 2023 property taxes because of Hurricane Ian's damage to your property.

Beacon of Hope- If your insurance company, FEMA or SBA has not given you assistance, go to Beacon of Hope Pine Island Mondays & Wednesdays 9am-3pm. They have cash assistance, can help with the Unite Florida Portal state program, and offer support in navigating the appeals processes with many programs you may have already applied for.


American Legion in SJC can also assist you in Unite Florida program hours Wed-Fri 11am-3pm

State

A State Led sheltering & housing program APPLY IN PERSON AT BEACON OF HOPE MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY FROM 9AM-1PM 

Available through IanRecovery.fl.gov provides temporary sheltering options like travel trailers, RV's and temporary or permanent repairs for households whose needs are not being met through insurance or FEMA’s Individual Assistance program. Residents can also access the Unite Florida Portal to report unmet needs such as transportation, household items & social services.   Apply here: IanRecovery.fl.gov

You can also call (800) 892-0948 between 7am & 7pm to apply.


Lost your job or business due to Ian? DUA is available to Florida businesses & residents whose employment or self-employment was lost or interrupted as a direct result of Hurricane Ian. Individuals affected in the designated-disaster areas must file DUA applications by December 30, 2022. Visit: https://floridajobs.org/.../disaster-unemployment-assistance or call 800-385-3920.

APPEAL FEMA DENIALS 

In addition to the Beacon of Hope Pine Island assisting you in an appeal, you can also call FEMA Appeal Assistance Florida Rural Legal Services at (888)582-3410Applicants can appeal any FEMA decision. An appeal is a written request to FEMA to review your file again, and an opportunity to provide new or additional information not previously submitted that may affect denial decisions. Appeals using this outlet must be made in writing and sent by mail or fax to FEMA within 60 days of receiving the letter. Appeals, pictures and documents can be faxed to (800)827-8112 or uploaded to your FEMA online account. Appeal letters and supporting documentation can also be uploaded to your account via DisasterAssistance.gov. .
